DOMESTIC ARTS

 DEPARTMENT F

Edwina Bryan, Mary Price, Jan Johnson

Superintendents

An article will not be accepted for competition if it was entered in a previous year, or if it was completed more than 12 months prior to the opening date of this year’s Fair.

ONLY ONE ARTICLE MAY BE ENTERED IN EACH LOT NUMBER.  Various Classes use the same Lot Numbers.  As long as it is in a different Class, you may repeat that Lot Number.

The same person may not win the same Sweepstake Award more than two years in a row.

A registry showing names and addresses of exhibitors who would be willing to sell their work will be maintained by the Department Superintendents.  On a separate piece of paper, give a description of the article to be sold and the sale price, along with your name, address and phone number (optional).  This sheet must be signed by the exhibitor as verification of your willingness for Superintendents to give out this information.

The following principles are only flexible guidelines and not strict rules.  Finished items should have these general characteristics: no loose threads; no knots except as required by technique; even stitching; fabric cut on the grain; clean and well pressed; appropriate fabric and notions for design; article appropriate for purpose in fabric and design; hand stitching neat, uniform and suitable for purpose; straight seams; machine stitching properly adjusted; depth of seam and finish suitable to fabric; properly matched plaids, stripes and checks; all napped fabric garments should be cut in the same direction; type of hem and depth suitable to fabric and garment type.  More detailed information may be obtained from the Department Superintendents.

ENTRY NUMBERS are available in the Exhibit Office, in the Agriculture Building.  Fill in an entry form for Division I, II, III, IV, V, or VI, along with an individual exhibitor’s tag for each exhibit entered.

Entries will be received from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, and from 7 until 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 28, at which time judging will begin.  NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 9 A.M. ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28.  Exhibits must be picked up at 5 p.m. on Sunday, but absolutely NOT BEFORE 5 p.m..  Unclaimed items will remain at the Fairgrounds for a limited number of days.  The Fair personnel are not responsible for unclaimed items.

IF YOU ARE 70 YEARS OR OLDER, OR 18 YEARS OR YOUNGER, OR HAVE SPECIAL PHYSICAL OR MENTAL CONSIDERATIONS, PLEASE USE THE SAME CLASS AND LOT NUMBERS AS DIVISION I (Ages 19 through 69), BUT PLEASE USE THE CORRECT DIVISION NUMBER.  SEE DESCRIPTIONS FOR DIVISIONS II, III, IV, V & VI AT THE END OF THIS DEPARTMENT, FOLLOWING THE SPECIAL AWARDS FOR DIVISION I.

BE SURE TO WRITE THE CORRECT DIVISION ON YOUR ENTRY FORM AND ON YOUR ATTACHED EXHIBITOR’S TAG!

EACH PERSON SHOULD USE ONLY ONE ENTRY FORM FOR EACH DIVISION IN THIS DEPARTMENT.
