DEPARTMENT M

PHOTOGRAPHY

Tom Jensen, Superintendent

General instructions and rules:  To enter exhibits, one must be a resident of Cochise County at the time of entry.  There is no entry fee.

Color film (including slides) may be commercially processed; however, color prints with the exception of Class 172 must be processed by the exhibitor.  Hand coloring, polaroid prints, 2¼” x 2¼” and larger transparencies, and other special photographic arts and crafts not included in the competition categories may be submitted in Class 175 - Special Photographic categories. Such entries are encouraged and Lots will be established if three or more entries are received which can logically be grouped for judging.  Additional photographic material may be exhibited only if space is available, but will not be judged.

No entries which have previously won any place in any category at the Cochise Country Fair within the last five years may be submitted.  Judges may use their discretion in making awards and have the right to disqualify an entry which they determine to be out of category, does not comply with the rules, or is inappropriate for the exhibit.

Entries must be accompanied by a Cochise County Fair entry form properly filled in.  Only one form is required for each person exhibiting regardless of the number of Lots and entries.  Use one line for entry, putting the title of the entry in the “Description of Articles or Animals” column.  Entry forms, exhibitor’s tags, and Fairbooks are available at the Photo Pick-up points as listed:

Douglas: Back Drop Photography, 533 11th Street

Sierra Vista: Landmark Photo, 400 W. Fry Boulevard

Willcox: Wildwood Gallery & Book Bank, 154 N. Railroad Ave.

Bisbee: Copper Queen Publishing Co., Copper Queen Plaza

Tombstone: J & J Photographics, 104 N. 6th Street

PHOTOS MAY BE DROPPED OFF DURING LOCAL BUSINESS HOURS UP TO 12 NOON, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2000.

Entries may be picked up by the owners at the same pick-up point at which entry was submitted.  Entries not claimed by December 31, 2000 will be considered abandoned and will be disposed of by the Superintendent of Photography.

SPECIAL AWARDS:

Best of Show ribbons will be awarded for the outstanding print in Classes 170, 171, 172, 173 and 175, and for the best color slide in Class 174.  The Blue Rosette Award will be given to the print receiving the most popular votes during the Fair.  Popular votes cast by viewers at the Photograph Exhibit area will cease at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 26, at which time the winner will be announced.

Other awards may be made at the discretion of the Judges.

CLASS NO’s 170, 171, 172, 173, 175

Special Rules:  Minimum print size, 80 square inches (8 x 10) up to a maximum matted print size of 16 x 20 inches (length x width). All prints must be matted with, or mounted on, heavy cardboard or matboard so that the photograph will stay rigid when hung.  Prints in frames will not be accepted.  Only one print per mount.  Exhibitor’s name, mailing address, the Class and Lot Numbers, as well as the title of the photograph, must be put on the backside of the mount.

Tape the exhibitor’s tag, by the string, so that the tag can be draped over the top corner of the photo.  This allows Fair visitors to see who the entrant is and the part of the County from which the photograph comes.

If there is any question as to which way the photo should be displayed please indicate “TOP” and “BOTTOM” on the back of the print.
