Articles
to be exhibited must be made, raised or collected during the 2000 club
year. Exhibits entered in the 4‑H & FFA Department
may not be entered in any other Fair department. ENTRY
FORMS MUST BE POSTMARKED OR DELIVERED BY SEPTEMBER 1ST to the
Cochise County Extension Office, 450 South Haskell, Willcox, Arizona
85643, (520) 384-3594, for ALL animal exhibit areas (Class 420 thru
434). 4-H/FFA entry forms
should be used, do not use the County Fair entry form.
PROJECT RECORDS ARE REQUIRED FOR BOTH 4-H AND FFA MEMBERS.
They must be avaailable for review as requested.

livestock summaries (4-H and FFA) must be brought to weigh-in to have

must be completed and the top copy given to the superintendent within

exhibits will be released before 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, except
horses and dogs. Each
4‑H/FFA livestock exhibit must be shown by the person entering
that exhibit in the fair. THIS ALSO PERTAINS TO SHOWMANSHIP CLASSES.
The
Danish Grouping System will be used in judging 4‑H/FFA Club
exhibits. PLAQUES MAY BE
AWARDED TO AN OUTSTANDING EXHIBIT IN EACH CLASS AT THE JUDGE'S
DISCRETION. At the request
of the 4‑H Council, no premium monies will be awarded.
COUNTY
FAIR 4-H/FFA GRIEVANCE PROCEDURES
In
order for the Cochise County 4-H Council to function efficiently during
the Cochise County Fair, a grievance committee has been developed to
rule on all grievances, protests or appeals.
The grievance committee will be composed of three selected
members. All questions,
suggestions, comments, complaints and protests from any person
participating at the Fair concerning Department S will be presented to
this committee. Committee
members will be announced before the Fair and will receive instructions
about their assignment from the 4-H Youth Development Agents.
Decisions of this committee will be by consensus and will be
final.
Since
4-H is part of the Cochise County Fair is also is subject to rules and
regulations established by the Cochise County Fair Association as stated
in the current Cochise County Fair Premium Catalog.
No other duties will be assigned to the members of the grievance
committee.
PROCEDURE
TO FILE A GRIEVANCE, PROTEST OR APPEAL
1.
Notify the area superintendent to allow discussion and possible
resolution prior to filing a grievance.
If situation cannot be resolved, obtain a grievance form from the
superintendent.
2.
On the form, write a complete statement concerning the facts to
include:
a. date
b. time
c. problem
d. signatures of
interested parties
e. addresses and
phone numbers of said parties
3.
The area superintendent must sign the form acknowledging the
grievance.
4.
The written protest must be given to a committee member.
5.
The grievance committee will meet with the superintendent for
further discussion and clarification prior to reaching a final decision.
6.
All protests resulting from the judge's decision must be made to
the grievance committee within one hour after the award has been made if
given directly to the individual. All
other, i.e. the 4-H building and other special awards, must be turned in
by 5 p.m. the last day of the Fair.
7.
No protest or appeal based upon the statement that the judge or
judges are incompetent or have overlooked an animal or article will be
considered by the grievance committee.
8.
All questions in dispute, or differences not covered by these
rules, shall be referred to the grievance committee and a 4-H agent,
whose decision shall be final.
4‑H
LIVESTOCK ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Please
be sure you have read and understand the 2000 4-H Livestock Rules.
If you do not have a copy, they may be obtained from the 4-H
office.
SWINE
HEALTH RULES (see rule book page 31 & 32 for complete information)
In
order for a hog to be exhibited it must be ear notched, have a premise
ID number & a “Certificate of Inspection of Exhibition Swine”.
CHECKING
IN AT THE FAIR
Brand
inspection papers: if
members are exhibiting cattle or sheep they must obtain brand inspection
papers before leaving home. One
copy of the inspection papers must be brought to the Fair. Each sale
animal must be listed on a separate inspection paper.
WEIGHING
AND TAGGING
All
weighing and tagging will be done on the first day of the Fair.
Exhibitors must be on the fairgrounds with their animals no later
than 10:00 a.m. for swine and noon for other livestock on Thursday, the
first day of the Fair. Any
animal that does not make weight may be transferred to the breeding,
open, or prospect classes, but the same animal may NOT be shown in both
the breeding and market and/or prospect class.
The same animal may be shown in only one of these classes.
MARKET
LIVESTOCK SALE
Any
4‑H and FFA member who has satisfactorily completed his livestock
project to date and whose animal places in the blue, or red ribbon color
group is eligible to sell ONE animal at the Cochise County Junior
Livestock Auction. All
champions, both grand and reserve champions must sell.
SALE
ORDER
The
animals will be rotated in the following order: Champion Lamb, Champion
Hog, Champion Steer, Champion Carcass Lamb, Champion Carcass Hog,
Champion Carcass Steer, Reserve Lamb, Reserve Hog, Reserve Steer,
Reserve Carcass Lamb, Reserve Carcass Hog, Reserve Carcass Steer, Best
Cochise County Bred & Fed Lamb, Best Cochise County Bred & Fed
Hog, Best Cochise County Bred and Fed Steer; the auction would then
proceed with the blue ribbon animals continuing with the rotation until
all animals are sold.
Hogs,
lambs and steers will be interspersed so that all 1st place
blues, etc. will sell together and the same with reds.
Actual placings will be listed on the sale oder.
POLICY
FOR SELLING ANIMALS AT THE FAIR
“For
Sale” signs will not be permitted to be placed on the animals’
stalls nor should any open business transactions for breeding or market
livestock take place prior to the 4-H/FFA Market Livestock Auction on
Sunday afternoon, with the exception of dairy goats and dairy cattle.
Any 4-H/FFA member found to be in violation of these rules
will not be permitted to exhibit or sell livestock in the 4-H/FFA
Division of next year’s fair.
SALE
NOTIFICATION
4-H
& FFA members must notify the superintendent for each market animal
exhibited which they do not wish to sell.
These must be turned into the respective superintendent as soon
as possible, but no later than 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
If an exhibitor has not notified the appropriate superintendent,
the superintendent has the authority to decide which animal will be
sold.
TRUCKING
The
auction committee will arrange for trucking of all animals which go
through the sale, to designated packing houses only.
COMMISSION
CHARGE
A
four percent commission will be deducted from the total price the
4‑H or FFA member receives from the animal and retained by the
Cochise County Junior Livestock Auction.
The four percent commission will not be deducted from the
add‑on contributions.
LARGE
LIVESTOCK ROUND ROBIN SHOWMANSHIP
The
Champion Junior and Senior of the following showmanship classes will
participate in the round robin showmanship:
Beef, sheep, swine, goat, dairy, dog, Western and English horse
showmanship. In the event
the champion is unable to participate the Reserve member may
participate. If neither the
champion nor reserve is able to participate, there will not be a member
showing, but the division will still be conducted.
SPECIAL
AWARDS
The
WILLIAM C. DAVIS MEMORIAL plaque will be presented by the Az.
Cattle Growers Assoc. to the Champion Market Steer.
The
MARY BOWEN MEMORIAL is sponsoring the banners for the Champion
Carcass Lamb and booster showmanship awards.
SHOWMANSHIP.
All Junior and Senior champion showmanship winners will receive a
trophy buckle.
JUNIOR
HERDSMANSHIP AWARDS
Awards
will be based on the livestock exhibits of the club or chapter and
judged on grooming and neatness of animals and equipment, neatness of
pens, stalls and areas surrounding exhibits, and the presence of the
exhibitors to answer questions and extend courtesy to the public.
Herdsmanship
will be judged commencing on the opening day of the Fair until the
release of livestock.
A
plaque will be awarded in the following livestock areas:
Beef, Sheep, Swine, and Goats.

Small stock animals will be cared for by the superintendent and
assistants, feed and water will be available. It is recommended that
exhibitors provide their own crock.

No diseased, infested or unsightly specimens will be admitted.

A pet class will be provided for mixed breeds.
Mixed breeds will not be eligible for champion classes.

The Small Stock Sale will be Sunday, October 1 at 10:00 a.m.

Alternating Sale order: rabbits,

will prevail for the 4‑H'ers participating in this division. Use
the 4-H/FFA Horse Show entry forms.
Entry fees are $2.00 each lot.
Roping classes require an additional $5.00 cattle/goat fee per
class. Entries are due
September 1. Novice
classes are not eligible for champion awards and points will not count
towards hi-point awards.
